My name is Peggy Elliott, and I opened Creative Résumés & Business Writing in 1994, after several years as a recruiter and headhunter who had received countless résumés from people looking for jobs in southeast Louisiana and Mississippi.
In most cases the résumés were poorly worded, grammatically incorrect, improperly punctuated, badly written, or too weak and unfocused.
Because I couldn't market my clients to employers without completely rewriting their original document or creating a new one from scratch, I finally switched career fields from recruiter to professional résumé writer ~ and it was a great business decision!!
My recruiting background gave me firsthand knowledge of what employers want to see on a résumé: what points to emphasize, how to bring a job history "with gaps" into focus, and how to make my clients stand out from the competition. After all, the only purpose of a résumé is to get you an interview.
One of my greatest strengths is the talent to repeat "verbatim" a client's words - and paraphrase things in the client's voice. I also have a deep interest in language and the impact of words in both meaning and appearance...but I don't believe in writing a lot of "fluff." I like to sell the sizzle. I'm also a career coach and will help with changing job careers, advice on the best marketing approach, and selling your personal or company branding.
Over the years, I have developed a strong commitment to craftsmanship - in the old world sense - to create a quality document that is congruent, both in content and design to a client's needs. To stay current with the best résumé writing techniques, I'm recertified annually. This keeps me up-to-date on the latest verbiage, buzz words, tag lines, attention-grabbers, etc.
I have learned to keep my ego and interpretation out of the client's way - allowing you to achieve your goals on your own terms. My clients tell me I have an inherent ability to make people feel safe, valuable, and confident.
In many cases my clients have been bruised from a bad work situation or are anxious about finding a job and paying the bills. I make sure clients feel confident they have purpose - something of value/worth to offer the world - while knowing somebody really does care about their success!
